Joint Research Activity 1 - Strategies to eliminate / reduce nanoparticle batch-to-batch variability

The key objectives are:

  • Assessment of the sources of batch-to-batch variability in the most widely used synthesis routes for the priority particle list (SiO2, TiO2, CeO2, Polystyrene, ZnO);
  • Development of strategies to eliminate or minimise these sources of variability from the synthesis routes;
  • Synthesis by ‘clean’ routes of existing nanoparticle types (for standards purposes);
  • Cleaning, extraction of undesirable catalysts, monomers/reactants, and undesirable biological contamination of the nanoparticles for use in TA.
